Description
The Engineer Goby, also known as the Convict Blenny, is a unique and fascinating saltwater fish. Despite its common name, it is not a true goby but belongs to the family Pholidichthyidae. It is known for its striking juvenile color pattern and its interesting burrowing behavior. As adults, these fish have a long, eel-like body with a pattern of horizontal black and white stripes.
Reef Safe
Yes, but with caution. They will not harm corals or invertebrates but their burrowing behavior can disturb the substrate and potentially topple rock structures.
Environment
Engineer Gobies prefer a tank with a deep sand bed and plenty of hiding places. They need good water quality and a stable environment. The tank should be well-covered as these fish are known to jump.
Behavior
Engineer Gobies are known for their burrowing behavior. They will often dig tunnels and caves in the substrate, which they use for hiding and protection. They are generally peaceful towards other fish but can be territorial with their own kind.
