Description
Scorpionfish are a type of marine fish that are known for their venomous spines and unique camouflaging abilities. They have a distinctive appearance, with a large, heavy body, a broad mouth, and a bumpy, lumpy surface that helps them blend in with their surroundings. They are bottom-dwellers, often found hiding among rocks and coral reefs.
Reef Safe
With caution. While they are not generally harmful to coral, their predatory nature can pose a threat to smaller fish and invertebrates.
Environment
Scorpionfish prefer a marine environment with plenty of hiding places, such as rocks and coral. They require a stable environment with consistent water temperature, pH, and salinity levels.
Behavior
Scorpionfish are typically solitary and sedentary, spending most of their time hiding among rocks and coral. They are nocturnal, becoming most active at night when they venture out to hunt. Despite their venomous spines, they are generally non-aggressive towards other fish unless provoked.
